Overview

The Asia e-Learning Network (AEN), under the concept of the Asia e-Learning Initiative, was proposed by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan and approved in 2001 at the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting plus three (the Peoples Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan). The objectives of this initiative are:

  1. Sharing information on the latest e-learning trends and technologies
  2. Promoting interoperability of e-learning systems and contents, and
  3. Promoting the spread of knowledge and effective use of e-learning

Under this context, we will hold "AEN Conference 2004" during 15 to 17 December, 2004 in Singapore. Center of the International Cooperation for Computerization (CICC) is commissioned by METI to organize the conference as a secretariat in conjunction with AEN Promotion Committee, Japan, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU), Advanced Learning Infrastructure Consortium, Japan(ALIC), and e-Learning Consortium, Japan (eLC) .

During this period, we also have Working Group meetings, "ALIVE"*, and "AEN Awards"** in Singapore.

* ALIVE (AEN LMS & Contents Interoperability Validation Experiment) is an event to check interoperability of Learning Management Systems and e-Learning Contents. "Outcomes of last fiscal year's ALIVE."

** AEN AWARD 2004 is an event to show up award-winning works of e-learning contents/products/activities from the countries of Asia and appreciate them to bring people's attention to the importance of the quality of e-learning.
